Beet Cardeal F1 Hybrid. Thompson & Morgan is delighted to work alongside the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew to offer special seed collections to home gardeners. The Kew Collection and The Kew Urban Garden Collection have been specially selected by The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.
A well shaped globe beetroot specially bred for baby beet production. Beetroot ‘Cardeal’ produces smooth skinned, red fleshed golf ball sized roots with a particularly sweet flavour. This tasty variety is easy to grow and shows some resistance to downy mildew.

How to sow
Direct sow beetroot seeds outdoors from March to July in a weed free, sunny position in fertile, light, well drained soil. Sow beetroot seeds thinly in shallow drills at a depth of 3cm (1″) and 30cm (12″) apart. Germination will usually take 12 to 24 days. When large enough to handle, thin out the seedlings within each row to 10cm (4″) apart.
