Versatile and undemanding, this short lived perennial tends to be grown as a biennial, and is tough enough to cope in even the poorest of soils.
Height 25-30cm (10-12in).

March – May
How to Sow
Sow in late spring/early summer outdoors in a well prepared seed bed. Sow the seeds very thinly 1.5mm (1/16in) deep in drills 30cm (12in) apart. Keep the soil damp until germination takes place. Transplant the seedlings when large enough to handle 15-23cm (6-9in) apart. When about 10-13cm (4-5in) tall, pinch out the growing point to make them more bushy. Transplant 30cm (12in) apart into the flowering site in the autumn for flowering the following year.
The tender young shoots can be cooked and eaten as a vegetable.
